Mist over the lake: a morning in Seeham
In autumn, mist often lies over the Obertrumer See in the morning. A short walk along the shore shows how slowly the light comes.
At a glance: In autumn, mist often lies over the Obertrumer See in the morning, and the light comes only slowly. Whoever takes a quarter of an hour for it begins the day at a calmer pace.
A morning at the Obertrumer See
In October a grey blanket lies over the Obertrumer See on many mornings. From the shore in Seeham you can then hardly see as far as the middle of the lake; the other shore can only be guessed at. The air is cool and damp, and it is astonishingly quiet: a duck, the stroke of an oar, somewhere a dog.
Whoever stands still for a while notices that the mist does not stand still. It drifts across the water, thins in some places and closes again in others. The jetties appear and disappear, as if someone were playing with the light.
The Obertrumer See is the largest of the three Trumer lakes. In summer it belongs to the swimmers and rowing boats; in autumn its shores grow quiet. That is exactly when an early look at the water is worthwhile, while the village is still asleep and the paths are almost empty.
Light in layers
On mornings like these the light does not come all at once. First the grey grows lighter, then the trees along the shore take shape, later the reeds and the boats. At some point the hills on the other shore emerge, and only then does the lake become the lake you know from summer again.
This often takes half an hour or longer. It cannot be hurried, only followed. That is precisely its appeal: there is nothing to do except look.
A short morning walk in Seeham
If you would like to experience it yourself, you do not need much. A few suggestions:
- Go out early, before the sun breaks through. On clear autumn days the mist often lifts in the course of the morning.
- Dress warmly; by the water it is cooler than in the village.
- Stay in one spot instead of ticking off the route. Ten minutes in the same place show more than a quick round.
- Take something warm to drink with you and sit down if a bench is free. Sitting, you see the mist drift differently than when walking.
- Leave your phone in your pocket. A photo in mist rarely turns out the way the morning feels.

Slowly into the day
A morning at the lake is not a programme, but it is a reminder of something that applies in my practice too: some things take their time. That is why a session begins with a conversation and ends with a few minutes of rest lying down. You can read how a session unfolds under Your visit, and the prices under Fees.
Perhaps you will take a few minutes before or after an appointment for a look at the water. The day then begins not with the first appointment but with the light over the lake.
